The Two Lives of Lydia Bird

Happy Sunday! ☕️ [Book review]: Oh, I was looking forward to this one and had it on my list for ages! On Lydia Bird's 28th birthday - the unthinkable happens. The love of her life for over a decade - Freddie - dies in a car accident on the way to her birthday dinner. The book then dives into two parallel universes. One: The reality in which she tries to figure out life alongside her grief with her family and her close friend Jonah - the "third wheel" of her and Freddie's longtime friendship - who also is dealing with being left behind. Two: Somehow, she has access to the world where Freddie still exists.

What do both worlds look like? What one does Lydia feels like she belongs in, and what happens if she can't fully say goodbye to move forward?

I love parallel universe stories - especially when love is involved - to see "what could have been" so I adored the premise of this book. If I had to nit pick (because my expectations were so high): I'd say the pacing off this book was a little off (too long in the parts that didn't matter, way too rushed in the parts I needed more), and the character depth had me also needing more - I felt like it went deep on Lydia but it could have been a real showstopper with more insight/background/inner workings of Freddie and Jonah. And the feeling of "needing more" also applied to the ending - even another few chapters could have made this one of my favorites!

That being said I still really enjoyed it - and I can't wait for more from this author!
